Acting in a Short Film
This class introduces students to techniques and skills required to create authentic performances on screen. Students will explore concepts such as focus, concentration, rhythm, character development and subtext. The course will include auditions and casting for a role in the short film.
This is a challenging course. The students will need to be committed to overcoming barriers of inhibitions and self-consciousness. They will experience first hand what it is like to be on a set performing for the camera. The course will provide insights and understanding of the demands, pressures and excitement of real film making.
Prerequisite: NYDS Screen Acting class in a previous year.
Dean Hewison is a film and theatre director based in Wellington. In 2007 his show “Brain Power” won Best Production Design at the Fringe. Dean was nominated for the Chapman Tripp Award and in 2008 he won the Best Film Award at the Australian Fake Film Festival for his comic film ”Half a Horse”.
