Comedy for Theatre
It's all about....Timing!
This course will focus on the skills an actor needs to act in stage comedy. We will explore great comedic scripts,characters and scenes from Moliere to Monty Python and find out what elements are needed to play in a good comedy.Timing, character and the art of playing the drama inside the laugh are just some of the skills that separate the badsitcoms from the true comedic greats.
Rachel Henry completed her Master of Theatre Arts in Directing from Toi Whakaari: NZ Drama School in 2003. Since then she has workedas a Director and sometime actor throughout New Zealand. Until last year she was a permanent staff member at the school and worked withthe cast of Roaring Girl in their first public showing in Classic Cuts last year. As well as directing Rachel works as a tutor and assessor for theShakespeare Globe Centre New Zealand and with schools around the region. In 2011 she directed a new New Zealand work, ¡°McKenzieCountry¡± and PSA ¡°The Comedy Festival Season¡±, both at Bats theatre, and the epic ¡°90 years of Broadway¡± with Queen Margaret and ScottsCollege. She is now back in the freelance world with a number of projects on the go.
