Screen Acting - 2 Workshops

With the continual development of the film and television industry in NZ actors have more opportunity to gain work onscreen. But what does it take to create compelling performances on screen? What challenges face actors, & whattechniques will he need to learn? Through classroom exercises we discover what goes into effective on-camera work, &enable students to become familiar with the unique processes necessary for the film actor. This intensive course willchallenge & inspire you.

Liz Kirkman is a writer/performer/director who thrives on devised, physical and community theatre work. Having completed her BA (Hons) inTheatre, she performed her acclaimed show "Junk", detailing her aunt's real-life experience as the first female undercover police officer in NZ.Liz tutors on Creative Processes and Making Plays for Theatre at Massey University, is the Dance Tutor and Acting for Screen tutor at UCOL,has toured King Lear, Macbeth and Othello through secondary schools with Kore Theatre and in '09 was Artist In School at Tikipunga High inWhangarei. Screen credits include: Avatar, Return of the King, Shortland St, Lisa in the ALAC TVC campaign 'It's Not the Drinking' and Kathrynin upcoming feature film, 'Eternity'.

Richard Rugg gained a Bachelor of Performing and Screen Arts from Unitec. He has worked throughout New Zealand in television andtheatre as producer, director and actor. Richard lives in Rotorua working as a freelance director and actor. He is currently preparing for theTaming of the Shrew, to be performed early 2012, as well as teaching drama at Rotorua Boys High School. Since last teaching at NYDS he hasperformed in the classic 60's show Rattle of a Simple Man, and directed Alan Ayckbourn's "Roleplay".
