The Acting Voice

Sylvia Rands is one of New Zealand ’s most experienced voice and acting teachers: Head of Voice (Toi Whakaari, 2005 -2008, Head ofVoice, Actor’s Centre, Sydney ; Voice Tutor, VCA, Melbourne). As an actress she has worked with esteemed directors, Margaret-Mary Hollins,Stuart Devenie, Jan Prettejohns, Mike Mizrahi and Raymond Hawthorne. Sylvia has received numerous credits and awards for her performanceson stage, screen and television including Best of Theatre for 'House of Bernada Alba, TAPAC, 2010, NZ Herald Best of Theatre Awards andBest Supporting Actress Nomination for 'Bonjour Timothy’. In 2011 she premiered her new theatre work The Angel and the Beloved a work oftheatrical alchemy using poetry,voice and music performed with musician/composer John Gibson. Similarly to her solo Shakespeare show SuchSweet Thunder , this work opened to rave reviews and the show will tour NZ in the future.
