<image:caption>Tainui is an experienced theatre maker having worked professionally in te ao whakaari for the past 20 years. He began his career as an actor after graduating from Unitec. Using his skill as a foundation for storytelling, he progressed to directing and writing where – over the past 10 years – he has built a sizable resume. Tainui observed a lack of Māori voices on our professional stages and quickly adopted and implemented a distinctive style and perspective representative of his cultural background. With this voice he has written, adapted and translated many plays, including Peter, Paka, Paratene, E kore a muri e hokia, Hoki Mai, Tama ma, Larger than life, Te Awarua and more recently the international sell-out festival show Black Ties.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Eden is a songwriter from Auckland, New Zealand, who has been described as “an artist working in a new space” (Jordan Luck, Exponents) “with the ambition to carve out her own niche on the immense tree of folk-inspired music” (Tobi, Demerara Records). Recording and producing out of her home studio, Eden combines her love of infectious pop melodies and the grit of Americana stringed instruments to create a unique and compelling storytelling experience through her music. Moving to Los Angeles at twenty years-old with just a suitcase and a guitar, Eden’s music has taken her to cities such as Nashville, Austin, and New Orleans, to perform and co-write with established songwriters. Commanding a strong live performance with her dynamic rhythm guitar technique, she has supported touring artists such as Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Gin Wigmore (You Are Us Concert, LA, 2019), Nik Kershaw (NZ Tour 2014), and Mark Scibalious (Hotel Cafe, LA, 2018). In January 2020, Eden received a grant from the New Zealand Music Commission to travel and perform at the Folk Alliance International Festival in New Orleans, Louisiana, where she opened for Tami Neilson and Troy Kingi.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home Groups & Tasters - Clowning - TUTOR: ELIZA SANDERS</image:title>
<image:caption>Eliza is a movement artist and performer based in Te-Whanganui-A-Tara who accidentally stumbled into comedy through the back door of contemporary dance. After years of creating deeply serious solo works that audiences consistently found hilarious, she decided to lean in to the laughter, creating a series of increasingly clown-influenced performances that explore the delightful intersection of virtuosic movement and profound ridiculousness. As Co-Artistic Director of House of Sand, alongside her sister Charley, Eliza creates visceral, surprising work grounded in care-based methodologies. Her current solo show “Manage Your Expectations” – an absurd, playful examination of trigger warnings – has garnered seven fringe award nominations including Best in Fringe, and won Best Performer at both New Zealand and Whangarei Fringe Festivals. Drawing on her background as a certified Countertechnique teacher and her deep engagement with somatic practices, Eliza brings a unique perspective to clowning that embraces physical precision while celebrating joyful failure and authentic connection. Her teaching practice is informed by extensive experience as a full-time tutor at the New Zealand School of Dance and her work across Aotearoa, Australia, and Korea. She is passionate about creating spaces where risk-taking feels safe and silliness becomes a serious tool for artistic discovery.</image:caption>

Growing up in an intensely creative household, Cecilia found her artistic expression through movement at a young age, and in 2019 she graduated from Unitech with a bachelor’s degree in Contemporary Dance. Cecilia uses dance to challenge and extend the perceived limits of the body and in turn the mind. Building relationships of trust with fellow dancers and collaborators is an essential part of her practice. Outside of Footnote Cecilia has worked with a diverse ranch of choreographers such as James Finnemore as a part of B12’s 2024 performance season in Berlin, Sarah Foster-Sproull, Malia Johnston, Tamsyn Russel and Michael Parmenter.</image:caption>

This class is suitable for anyone interested in drag performance of any kind (kings, queens or in-betweens!), of any performance level or experience. Drag is a gear-heavy art form. Our Drag Class wardrobe of donated goodies is available but students are also encouraged to bring as much of their own gear as possible – particularly makeup and heels. A full list of ‘useful things to bring’ will be provided after enrolment. Students that are gender diverse, transgender or non-binary will be given priority, as a reflection of the rare and transformational opportunity drag experiences can offer to queer youth. If you fit this criteria, please mark this on your application. If you are uncomfortable or unable to mark this directly on the form, please reach out to @hugogrrrl directly.</image:caption>
